Project Overview
The Problem
As AI use continues to grow, so does the need for people to understand how to use AI responsibly and ethically. The 2026 Stanford AI Index Report highlights that “Responsible AI is not keeping pace with AI capability, with safety benchmarks lagging and incidents rising sharply.”
At the University of Florida, faculty and staff are increasingly incorporating AI into their work, creating a growing need for clear, practical guidance on responsible AI use. While UF provides policies, guidelines, and resources to support responsible use, learners may need to navigate information across different sources and determine which guidance is most relevant to their work. For busy professionals, finding and applying the most important information can be challenging.
The Solution
A concise, self-paced Articulate Rise course was developed to bring essential guidance on responsible AI use, ethics, and copyright into one accessible learning experience. Complex information from university policies, guidelines, and supporting resources was organized into clear, practical content that learners could quickly understand and apply to their work.
The course uses interactive activities, knowledge checks, and practical examples to reinforce key concepts while keeping the learning experience focused and manageable for busy faculty, staff, and students. Key resources are also gathered throughout the course, giving learners a convenient reference they can return to when they need additional guidance.

Development Process

The first step was to develop the course outline in collaboration with my manager. We reviewed UF’s existing resources on responsible AI use, including AI ethics, AI governance, generative AI best practices, and guidance for researchers and students. Based on these resources, we identified the key topics learners needed and organized them into a structured course outline, defining each lesson and its corresponding subsections. The outline provided the foundation for developing the course content and creating a focused learning experience for UF faculty, staff, and students.
With the course outline established, the next step was to develop the content for each lesson. Using UF’s policies, guidelines, and supporting resources, I organized key information into concise explanations that made complex topics related to responsible AI use, ethics, and copyright easier to understand. I focused on presenting practical, relevant information for the UF community while incorporating links to official resources so learners could explore specific topics further and return to them as needed.
Built the course in Articulate Rise using a combination of standard and customized blocks to organize lesson content into a clear, logical structure. Applied visual design principles to improve readability and guide learners through key concepts, incorporating interactive elements and knowledge checks where appropriate to reinforce understanding.
Integrated accessibility best practices throughout development by using WebAIM to verify color contrast, the UFIT Alt-Text Generator to create alternative text for images, and appropriate font sizes to support readability. Also considered clear headings, meaningful content structure, and intuitive navigation to create an engaging, accessible, and easy-to-use learning experience for all learners
The course went through a two-stage review process to ensure quality and usability. First, our intern reviewed the course for typos, estimated completion time, and accessibility using NVDA screen reader software. Feedback from this review was used to address identified issues and refine the learning experience. The course then underwent a final review by the manager to confirm content accuracy, overall quality, and readiness for delivery.
After final approval, the course was published in UF’s myTraining system, making it available to the university community. To increase awareness and encourage participation, the course was also promoted through UFIT Training monthly newsletter. These efforts helped connect faculty, staff, and students with practical guidance and resources to support responsible, ethical, and informed use of AI.
Course Showcase
This course, AI Ethics, Copyright, and Responsible Use in the Workplace, was designed to help learners navigate the ethical and responsible use of AI in professional settings. The course addresses responsible AI practices, privacy and security, human oversight, copyright and ownership of AI-generated content, and University of Florida guidelines and resources.
Customized Rise blocks and layouts were developed to fit the content and learning purpose, presenting information in formats that support clarity, organization, and learner engagement. The screenshots below showcase examples of these instructional design approaches, including AI best practices, UF resources, and frequently asked questions about AI-generated content and copyright.
